Luky Dragon

Number of scales: over 1,200

Micro-sculpture - Jewellery — 2025

Luky Dragon
Luky Dragon — 1

I have always been fascinated by Asian culture and mythology, and by China’s in particular. The year 2024, the Year of the Dragon, made me want to create my own interpretation of this mythical figure while staying true to my artistic world.

Luky Dragon — 3

Until then, my work had been rooted in nature and the observation of reality; venturing into the depiction of a myth was a challenge both stimulating and deeply rewarding. Here the dragon, 3.3 centimetres long and 1.7 centimetres tall, is made of more than 1,200 scales, each sculpted with the same rigour.

This piece is also a way of paying tribute to my lucky star, by pairing the dragon with my lucky charm: the lightning bolt.

Luky Dragon — 7

This knife stands as a powerful symbol: an intimate, spiritual way of honouring this benevolent energy and preserving its good fortune.

Genesis of the work

The making of the piece, from the first sketch to the finished knife.

  1. 01

A research phase tests several designs before the knife’s final shape is settled.

  2. 02

The silhouette emerges in the knife. Against the hardness of stainless steel, every gesture demands extreme focus and precision.

  3. 03

The scales and details of the dragon’s upper body, captured through the stereo microscope.

  4. 04

The piece is meticulously cleaned to remove the scale, the black deposit left by hardening.

  5. 05

With the sculpture complete, the handle’s material and colour are chosen.

  6. 06

The handle is adorned with silver jewels, set and shaped as lightning bolts.

  7. 07

One of the two finely set lightning bolts.
